Some interesting behaviour today in the garden  as I photographed a young Collared Dove, a  Starling (Sturnus vulgarus) appeared to be showing  an unusual amount of aggressive interest in a newly fledged House Sparrow. At one point the Starling even seemed to have a hold of the sparrow . Eventually the baby sparrow fought back and the starling thought better of it and released it's grip.

You can clearly see the Starling's feet around the sparrow in this shot. Very odd behaviour and something I haven't witnessed before.  I once saw a Carrion Crow sidle up to a Starling on a roof top and eat it, but that's another story.

One response to “Starling attacking juvenile House Sparrow.”
