I know that people are visiting the blog just to see kingfisher photos so I I am under a certain amount of pressure not to disappoint!  Last Monday morning was the last time I saw Kingfishers on the brook when I visited the hide with my Daughter- in -law Carrie. We took these photos while the bird was with us for several minutes with a Stickleback. Then after a while we both were surprised to notice another Kingfisher on a nearby perch. Eventually, or should I say, quite quickly the first bird was chased from the territory by another bird which then returned to the perch having successfully ejecting bird number 1 from the area. There was no fight this time, the origianal bird choosing to leave rather than fight. They are very hard to tell apart but I discovered which was which by looking closely at the foot colour and the difference in the extent of the beak colour in each individual.

If you compare this bird here to the one 3 pictures below, you can clearly see a difference in the feet. As the photos were taken at the same time of day and when the light was the same, then I know it is not a trick of the light causing the feet to look different.

Now look at this bird in the picture above and all the pictures below, this is a different female.
