Com B
This is a Common Blue Butterfly – Polyommatus icarus. There are several on the banks of the brook and today, in between waiting for Kingfishers I had a closer look. The other day I had seen a Painted Lady but there was no sign of one today, nor Comma which I have also seen a few times. I took this next photo of a moth, A Silver Y – Autographa gamma  species. (Thanks Phil)

Moth

There is a huge gap in my knowledge of moths I am ashamed to say. Talking of moths on July 28th last year, and the very same date the year before….. see here ……..  I had seen a Jersey Tiger Moth in the garden  and blow me if I didn't see  one again today and the first of the year, a day late this year, but amazing.  Is this coincidental or is something quite special going on.  I didn't manage a photo this year, but there is always tomorrow.

Also quite commonly seen at the moment are lots of the hoverfly which is Syrphus sp.

Alphinbrook Hoverfly
…..and of course there is always another Kingfisher photograph.  Not the best day for Kingfishers but I have got something to show for several hours of wait. Under normal service I would be calling this a great image, but it's just one of more than 200 photos I have saved of a Kingfisher posing.
