It has been a dismally rainy day with very little opportunity to get out without getting soaked to the skin………. so that's what i did. The brook is high, the water almost above my chair but I still climbed down and got and immediate welly full of water. So already wet, I sat in the hide with the rain pouring down and waited to see how the new Kingfisher was coping in this pretty awful weather. All the perches were submerged except for one, you can see it above, and as you can see, it wasn't long before she had landed on it. Fantastic view of this lovely bird. She preened and posed, bathed and then posed again. Being a Kingfisher she wasn't worried about the rain but when she started to look for fish in the flooding water I started to become a bit concerned for her. I really hope she can get some food in these conditions. As you can see below, she flew to a perch opposite to look from there.
I have to confess to feeling good about this picture, not the best but getting there at last. This new bird is a little slower than the previous male so it is going to be possible to get some in-flight shots of her. When she eventually settled she spent 10 minutes looking for a fish but then moved on to somewhere that would be easier. I hope she was successful.
