I set up a video camera on the Meadow Pipit's nest today and it was very successful. My plan was to place the camera to over-look the nest and then carefully cover it all except the lens. Of course, I had switched it to record first. I then departed the area and left the camera running for 40 minutes. Domestic activity continued with no interference and when I retrieved the camera and played back the video I discovered that one of the adult pipits had visited the nest after 14 minutes and fed the chicks a variety of insect life. This included a couple of large moths and a beetle! I was pleased that everything passed off with no interference.
I want to say wow………. I am very pleased with these results, but that would be a very boastful thing to do!!!!!!!
As I waited, some distance from the nest, I sat under a cam cover waiting to try and get a good shot, well better than the one I had taken previously, of a Yellowhammer. Glad to say that it didn't take long before he was in front of me. They are so lovely, I hope you agree. We have Cirl Bunting here in Devon and the are attractive too, but in my opinion nothing beats the stunning canary yellow of the Yellowhammer.
