Having been extremely busy yesterday, I had a look at the Kingfisher nest site and am pretty sure that the youngsters have now fledged the nest. The male was not visiting as before and then, after an hour or so I caught a glimpse of a young bird flying down the river near to the nest site. My assumption is that nature has taken it's course and the youngsters have dispersed around the territory. At least, that is my hope.
A Carrion Crow has a nest nearby and I took some shots of 3 happy youngsters, almost ready to fly sitting in, and around the nest high in an old willow tree over-hanging the water. About as safe a nest site as they could have chosen.
Obviously, this is no crow! It is of course a male House Sparrow bathing in the brook. I sat for an hour still trying for good Kingfisher shots which is still not happening since my return but lots of little "side-shows"taking place.
Wolf Spider
I observed some interesting behaviour in the garden the other day. A pair, or atleast that's what it seemed, of Wolf Spiders were interacting. I watched what I am assuming to be the male, vibrating his body as he approached the female.
The garden has yet to come to life with no Hoverflies to report yet but we have had a few interesting solitary bee species and a pair of Speckled Wood Butterflies.
