The Solitary Sandpiper is a Tringa sandpiper which looks very similar to the closely related old world equivalent, the Green Sandpiper. I took this picture yesterday on the edge of the Everglades in a very un-exotic location…………… a muddy puddle. This was a wise choice to rest because the pool was teeming with small flies attracted by the smelly water. It is very hard to get good ph Perhaps it's still a bit icyupotos in the extremely strong sunlight which glares down from straight above in the middle of the day, hence the slightly over-exposed photo. By the way, there were two birds together……….. perhaps a breeding pair? They need to get on with their migration though if they are going to reach their breeding grounds in Sub-arctic Northern Canada. Perhaps its still icy up there and they know better than me!
