West Lake Park Stilt
I have to say that even I was a little surprised this morning as I entered West Lake Park (the park with no birds), when I spotted a lovely Black Necked Stilt wading through a flooded paddock near to the entrance. I know that Stilts are not particularly scarce here but never the less, they are always so good to see, beautifully elegant and attractive. The other day I had seen a Roseate Spoonbill fly over, another good sighting. But perhaps the biggest surprise was this Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria), in fact there were 6 in total,  (making a mockery of their name).

The park has also had some nice warblers in the last few days  including Blackpoll Warblers, small well marked birds on migration from Brazil. They have yellow legs and a solid black cap, hence the reference to "pol" which refers to the head.  Their diet includes berries as you can see in this shot.
