On the morning of the 30th (yesterday) I took an early morning walk along the beach adjacent to John Lloyd Park near to the Davie Pier. I had just reached the fence line that defines the park when I noticed a small bird on the surf line. I stood very still and crouched low and started to take pictures of what turned out to be a Semi-palmated Plover. This bird is the New World equivalent of the Ringed Plover in Europe. It is a bird I have been aware of so it was a pleasure to not only see it but get such fine close-ups. I am guessing that this bird has not yet completed its moult in to full breeding condition. When it has it will have a more prominent yellow beak and perhaps even more of a black neck ring.
