MP Pair a

This pair of Meadow Pipits had me excited for a few seconds, I was hoping, in fact I always hope that they were going to be Water Pipit. This would have been a new species for the Brook area. But no. The  leg colour of MP's is fleshy pink, usually in WP's these are dark. The face pattern is different with a more noticeable supercillium, that is in laymans terms "eyestripe", in Water P.  Water P's are slightly larger and more like Rock Pipit. To be perfectly honest, they are a bit of a nightmare to tell apart but if you had them all together then there would be clear differences. The difficulty is that Water Pipit are quite a scarce, if not rare bird and I do not see them often enough to be really skilled at telling them apart. Safe to see that it is usual to err on the side of caution and assume that any Pipit with pink feet is going to be a Meadow……. hope this all makes sense. The Buzzard continues to be more approachable, I'm sure he recognises me now and considers me no threat. I am currently building a new hide smack in the middle of his territory which should get me very close to him. There is also possibility of Kingfisher and Little Egret in the new place, I have  seen all there. In addition there is a very nice Greater Spotted Woodpecker that I hope to get close to as well.

Waggy prey a
This pied Wagtail was eating some quite large juicy looking grubs which he was getting from the surface of the recently puddled grass. I will be having a look to see if I can ascertain what these grubs are, I will need to find one first though, may not be easy.
