Yesterday's Redwings have been back and today they were joined by a Fieldfare and several 'strange" Blackbirds, that is, strangers who I haven't seen before. I have been trying for the last hour or so, to get a photo of the Redwings that I now know are feeding on the Holly Berries in my front garden and after setting up a screen from a front bedroom window, I finally managed a reasonable close up……… more to follow I think.
It is now late afternoon, early evening and this is an update.
I spent the majority of the daylight hours trying to get some good photos, not many hours in deepest December, (can you believe by 3 0'clock it was almost dark), and eventually after a lot of patience I achieved my aim. I am reasonably pleased but when we have a brighter day and if the Redwings are still around , I should get better.
As you can see, the focus of attention is the holly berries on a tree in my front garden. This is a really mature tree which is laden with the most berries that I have ever seen. I first noticed the Blackbirds in the tree at the end of last week and it now seems likely that the Redwings were there with them all along. Fieldfares are quite often in the same flock as Redwings so I am not surprised to see one as well.
With real patience, eventually one bird stayed perched and hidden, or so it thought, deep in the middle of the tree. It was directly in my sight with nothing to obstruct my view. By now the light was dimming fast and I had changed my lens to the Pentax 200 which can cope much, much better in low light conditions. however there is a play off (there always is), images always need to be cropped to fill the frame. Never the less, I am pleased with the results, Redwings are hard to get up and close to and this is a decent result!
