Dunocka

I make no apology for posting this photo of one of our more common UK birds. Often overlooked and almost always taken for granted, to me Dunnocks are much more interesting than their first impression may suggest. In keeping with my quest to post the very best pictures possible, this picture certainly deserves to be featured. Dunnocks are in no way related to the House Sparrow but are quite often referred to as Hedge Sparrows They have a slender insectivorous bill but they will forage for seeds as well, usually on the ground. This bird is an adult, you can tell by the eye colour which is a rich brown in adults but in juveniles is olive coloured. In the spring they are very promiscuous and chase around constantly. They can have multiple partners. The males have a pretty song.
I took this yesterday down by the Alphin brook as well as the Wren below but they were upstaged somewhat by the Kingfisher.
