Red Throated Diver
I have been away for the weekend with my band the Lympstone South West Telecoms Band. We were in Slapton in South Devon which just happens to be a great place for birds with a nice bit of sea, a wide shingle beach and of course the freshwater Ley.  This is literally across the road from the seashore. I asked the guys giving me a lift if they fancied a look at the beach as we had arrived early. Guess what? It was really worthwhile because as we pulled in to the car park in really bright sunny conditions I immediately caught sight of a Diver species in the surf. I quickly got my camera and managed to get a few shots of it before it moved out away from the beach. After I had looked carefully at the pictures I identified it as a Red Throated Diver in winter plumage of course. I have to say I was very pleased, another new species for the year and for saying I wasn't on a bird watching day a real bonus. I didn't have time to stay for longer than 10 minutes or so but it had been really worthwhile.
If you visit my blog regularly you will have noticed that I have got a new feature to the right of the screen, the adds link. These are web pages that should be of interest to you, and usually have some relevance to the subject matter of the blog so I am sure you will be as interested as I am to have a look at them.
