Blacbird – Turdus merula
Wren
A very frosty bright day greeted us and I knew that we were in for a good day of birds in the garden.
I took my place in the shed and watched for the Blackcaps, I was hoping to get a shot of them together. After only a few moments there was a noticeable increase of calls from the tits that are now with us almost all of the time. I followed a couple with my lens that seemed darker than normal and to my utter surprise here was a couple of Goldcrests. They were searching the clematis for aphids just the same as the Long-Tailed Tits did yesterday. I had planned to go out to Dartmoor , in this bright frosty conditions it was going to be perfect for photography but the activity in the garden was so lively that I would have been pointless to go somewhere else when there was so much here to see.
As well as the Goldcrest we had Long-tailed Tits, Coal and Blue Tits again. Chaffinch, Blackbirds, Dunnocks and the Wren above. The Blackcaps could be heard singing a quiet "sub-song" but I didn't catch sight of them today.
