Chaffinch

Its been an exciting couple of days since my last post. My alter-ego has been at work as the Musical Director of my band, Lympstone South West Telecoms Band, we have been taking part in the South West Championships and we achieved the best result in the band’s 120 year history. But enough of that and associated hangovers, back in the garden things are happening. I decided to move one of the feeders from near to the house and position it in the tree. I am pleased to say that it is in use with a visit from the Coal Tits. Also there has been a few Chaffinches around which in it’s self is nothing to shout about but they are not a really common bird in the garden. I note that at this time last year we had them visit us so there is a pattern of behaviour here. If you are not resident here in the UK and not familiar with this species, this is a male. Have a look at it’s beak, of all the British finches this one is more likely to feed on insects hence the longer shape of the beak compared to some other finches that are more reliant on seed only.
We now have bright, bright sunshine so that is a nice bonus after a gloomy few days. As I noted last year we have White -tailed Bumble Bees feeding on the winter flowering Jasmine this is going to happen when we have a sunny day.
