So, the weather is dull and a bit damp but I needed to go on to the marsh to check if the Cattle Egret was around. No sign of it any where but I decided to hang around for a while, I made my way up through the public footpath called 10 bridges, I don’t know why, I just thought there might be something on the pools that are close to the path. This is quite often the case on bad days because there are not so many people around to spook them. Sure enough only 20 foot or so from the path a couple of Black-Tailed Godwits were feeding in the mud.
I snapped away and couldn’t believe my luck, the sky was brightening but no sunlight but I was just loving the combination of situation, calm birds showing really well and a great background to go with it. Suddenly they became spooked and a look upwards showed the reason why. A Hobby darting around chasing Dragonflies.

It might look like an OK shot but it really isn’t that good. The bird was into the bright part of the sky so consequently in silhouette so after adjusting the camera accordingly I did manage one or two shots that were almost there, but out of focus. So this is the best I am afraid to say. But at least an improvement on previous Hobby photos. She was chasing around the Dragonflies and from time to time would stoop on to them at a fantastic speed. In a few shots you can clearly see the prey in the talons and in others she is eating her prey on the wing, but just not good enough photos I am afraid.
I really do applaud those clever people that get great close up shots of theses birds in flight, they are so talented because this was the best that I could do.
