I am glad to say that I managed a good close up shot of the Slavonian Grebe at Cockwood Harbour yesterday. if you go to look choose a time when the tide is rising and watch out for a solitary little black shape that from a distance could be a moorhen or coot, but perhaps not in the sea. This bird gives no clue to it’s beauty until you look through binoculars. With the tide rising the bird is closer to the shore prefering to keep out of the very fast flowing current. I have been to look three times and seen it on each occasion so it is not difficult to locate. It appeared to follow the same pattern as the tide came an moving down stream to the back-water area adjacent to the wreck……. local people will know what I mean…….. but just of the rail embankment. There are more photos here on my Flickr galleries. Yesterday I had a real photographic encounter with a small group of Knot and I have included that in another post.Grebe_sunday_5
