The sun was streaming in through the window when I woke and immediately I thought about the good light and hoped that the Osprey was still with us at Powderham. I had been to look yesterday and there was no sign of it whatsoever. But full of optimism as usual I sped, after breakfast to the foreshore adjacent to Powderham Estate. I t was a glorious day, a little bit windy but clear and very bright. For at least 40 minutes there was no sign of it whatsoever and I was buoyed to see a kingfisher very very close, it perched on a sluice gate and as I trained the camera on it the lady and gent who by now I was chatting to excitedly pointed it out. Of course this was too much for any Kingfisher and he quickly flew out of sight over a little hillock behind. It was about this point that David my new acquaintance asked what that large whitish bird could be drifting towards us above the castle. You guessed it , the Osprey! I fired of a series of distant shots which I think are a bit of an improvement , but if only it would come closer! It continued on the wind and flew over the Estuary towards Lympstone. I sat it out hoping for a return and I was quickly rewarded when after only 10 minutes it came in to view again Osprey_frid_1
This time it did a little bit of a hover thing and again disappeared from view only to return one more time 10 minutes later. Osprey_on_friday_2

I am fully aware that these are not my best photos on the blog but its not often that we have an Osprey to photograph in Devon so we will have to make do.
Later on this afternoon at home two Raven flew over the garden.
