At last it stopped raining and it gave me the chance to go and find the Osprey reported over the last few days at nearby Powderham Estate. This is parkland adjacent to the River Exe Estuary. I was pleased as I arrived to see a few keen Birdwatchers with their scopes focused on a tree 300 yards from the road inside the park. I was quickly informed that it had just returned to a perch out of sight after performing to the onlookers. It was a waiting game and very exciting with tension in the air, at least that’s the way it seemed to me. After a 40 minute wait it put in an appearance on the wing and in spite of the distance I got a few shots. I have seen Ospreys numerous times in the USA but never in the UK and not within 2 miles of my house so it was a rewarding and fulfilling morning. It would have been good if the bird had come a bit closer but it is not always that way and I am pleased with the result as a record of the “Powderham Osprey” Later it perched in full view but now around 500 mtrs away making worthwhile photography impossible. For anyone there with me this morning if you save this image to your desktop then you can use it in any way you care to. If you put it on-line could you please give me a credit and a link back to the blog, and it was nice to meet you. It is very refreshing and a comfort to know that there are so many well informed people out there.
