My suburb of the the city of Exeter is Alphington named from the little stream that flows through the village, the Alphin Brook. It is now encased in concrete as it passes through the local industrial site and is mearly a flood relief channel. But there is flowing water and at one end it passes close to a wood and a meadow and is a good habitat for Dragonfly and Damsels. This afternoon with very little bird activity, (it’snot a good time of the year), I had a wander and discovered an absolute glut of Banded Demoiselle as well as a male Keeled Skimmer. The demoiselle were mating and egg laying and very interesting to watch. There was also so a few Blue Tailed Damsels and Red Admiral, Tortoiseshell and Comma Butterflies.
