The Blue-tailed damselfly – Ischnura elegans is one of the commonest species of Damselflies in the UK, they are found in a variety of locations including brackish and polluted waters. They are absent from very few areas of Great Britain but occur mainly in lowland areas. A description is not necessary,,,,,,,,,,,, just have a look at the photographs and video. Males are territorial and most remain close to water. They take 3 days to mature and attain their adult plumage, immatures of all damsels can be confusing when they are in the newly emerged state, not aquirring their full colours until adult. Pairs spend up to 6 hours mating and are therefore often seen in the “mating circle”.
