We have had a perfect day here in Devon, perfect that is for Dragonfly and Damsels. I am keen to see and photograph new species for my collection so with this in mind we had a trip to Kennick Reservoir to see what we could come up with. Four Spot Chasers – Libellula quadrimaculata were very common and as it is a species that I haven’t seen this year it was a welcome addition. Have a look here at the Broad Bodied Chaser – Libellula depressa and you can see how alike they are. The Broad Bodied here is a female and the Four spot a male but I am sure that you can see the similarity. The Four Spot are said to be very territorial and aggressive to each other and this proved to be the case. They were very quick to “see-off” any intruders into their space flying out to intercept any other Dragonflies that came near.
