The last week has been very hectic with some unfortunate family problems. I have been away from my computer but I am getting back to normal now.
I took a walk yesterday to look for Dragonflies and whatever on Aylesbeare Common. The weather was bright and sunny and it looked like a good day for that kind of activity. I walked down a track through the heath and as I rounded a bend I stopped dead in my tracks at the same time as a stag Roe Deer did the same coming down the track from the other direction. Dressed in my cam clothing he was confused and didnt see me. I took a few photos as he turned and casually walked away from “this strange tree with legs”. The first shot shows our first meeting. He trotted away down a bank and then came up along a fence line to my left. By now he saw me as a threat and I took a photo of him running towards thick cover with all 4 legs clear of the ground as he jumped through the heather. I did find Dragonflies later, Broad Bodied Chaser agin and not the different species that I was hoping for but a meeting with the warden confirmed that there were some interesting species to see. This female was eating an insect and you can what a formidable predator Dragonflies must be. I am not very successful with Dartford Warbler on Aylesbeare, I did hear them but didn’t catch a glimpse.
