It is an absolutely stonking day today, very hot and sunny. It was a good day for Dragonflies and the Broad Bodied Chaser – Libellula depressa. They are a stunningly impressive Dragonfly and today I saw at least 7 different specimens all females. Cant think why no males as yet, must be the usually way of things, perhaps the males are over water holding territory or they may emerge later in the season.
As we walked through the marsh towards the car and a well deserved cup of tea, I noticed a Stonechat behaving very oddly. He was laying on top of a fence post and either suffering from the effects of the sun or enjoying it so much he was in ecstasy. I took this photo of him but didn’t capture his odd behaviour which included panting and rolling around with his mouth gaping
