The South Coast of Devon can be an interesting place to visit and I would thoroughly recommend it to you if you are looking for a place to visit for either a holiday or short break. Today we had the chance for a trip out and decided to visit Prawle Point. It is Devon’s most southerly point and on a prevous visit last month we had seen lots of interesting birds and butterflies. Today wasn’t quite so productive because the wind was quite crisp and even though their was a clear blue sky it was quite cool, particularly in the wind. Birds were in evidence but not particularly showing, only a quick snatched view of the Cirl Bunting and that was about the only notable species to show . Stonechats were feeding newly fledged youngsters and that was about it.
Out at sea there was a nice Gannet that was diving for food and I snapped off lots of photos in the hope that I would get a nice clear one. I finished up with this very picturesque image of a Gannet and Sailing boats which I really like.
The Rock Pipit – Anthus petrosus is an interesting under-rated species that can be overlooked very easily yet I always see them whenever I am in the right habitat, rocky shore lines here in Devon and Cornwall. They have a very interesting display flight which involves them flying high and then parachuting down again all the while singing a very unmusical but excited song. I tried really hard to get a photo of them performing and this was the nearest I came to it.
