Along my local River Exe there is always the chance to see some wildlife and without a vehicle to get me anywhere too remote I thought I would check it out and hopefully catch sight of the Sandpiper that I have seen there before. It is a busy place with dog walkers so not as quiet as I normally prefer. In fact yesterday I was exposed to some really selfish behaviour by more than one dog owner, this didn’t surprise me in this “everyone for himself” society. I was stood quietly with my camera on a tripod focused on the river bank and had been for at least an hour when a moronic dog and it’s matching owner thought it would be good idea to jump in and splash all around me. Now that’s fair enough but most normal people would perhaps think that what I was doing deserved a little bit of respect and privacy and gone down the river a 100 yards.
The object of my observations was a colony of Sand Martins who are nesting in the banks of the River here on a bend. In spite of the moronic cretins who couldn’t care less about wildlife and don’t even notice. There is going to be some amazing photo opportunities here. They are extremely agile and fast flying and difficult to capture in flight so it will be quite a challenge. here is one from yesterdays efforts.

On the walk down I passed the local Canal and I immediately spotted a Beautiful Damoiselle, a species of Damselfly. They are stunningly beautiful so very well named. It is a female.
I had to change lenses and as I was engrossed in the picture a Robin had the audacity to perch on my camera lens still on the tripod 2 feet behind me. I have seen this individual before so I I know how tame he is but it did amuse me. I also took this great photo of mating Large Red Damselflies which is perhaps one of the best shots I have ever taken hand held as it was. On the walk back a Heron decided that I was no threat and came within feet of my. I was trying to take photos of Long Tailed Tits and wearing a camo shirt perhaps he didn’t notice me. Imgp7576
