The bad weather has arrived and a walk around my local Nature Reserve gave me an opportunity to record some of the species out there. It was noticeable how there are far less duck species now with no sign of Teal and Shoveler, ducks that had been very common and abundant last week. They have obviously left on their migration. I caught sight of a small flock of Widgeon, Canada Geese were common and the Mute Swans have been left in peace. I took photographs of a lovely pair of Coot which are so often taken for granted but they really are quite attractive with their soot black plumage, odd paddles for feet and green legs. They have a stunning red eye and a very distinctive white beak and cap.
The Grey Heron was showing himself well and he looks to be in good condition too. I caught sight very briefly of a small greenish warbler species which was a mystery to me, an early migrant. Also, Long Tailed Tits and a Pheasant.
In the garden a Bumblebee sp. flew by swiftly and I had a brief encounter with a queen Wasp.
