Its going to be a busy for me today so I am posting a shot of a Goldfinch-Carduelas carduelas from yesterday. This was one of a small flock known as a “charm” that visited yesterday. When you see the very bright plumage of this species perhaps you may wonder like me , why they evolved to be so brightly coloured because they do stand out against very dull backgrounds at this time of the year. The beak is a very interesting shape, they feed on thistles and teazle seed and it has evolved into a more elongated shape than other similar finches to enable them to feed.
Last night we had very strong winds and now it has passed over there is a bit of cleaning up to be done. Everywhere is in a mess with sticks and debris everywhere and damage to my shed door and outside lights. We now have bright blue skies and sunshine. I have already seen my Dunnocks and heard Blue Tits so they are safe and sound. This has led me to wonder where they spent such a bad night.
